Courtney Southern is a Higher Assistant Psychologist at CCATS. Courtney holds a BSc (Hons) in Psychology, an MSc in Clinical Psychology, and is currently completing an MSc in Forensic Psychology. She is a Graduate Member of the British Psychological Society. Courtney’s role within CCATS involves supporting registered Psychologists within children’s residential homes through completing psychological assessments, therapy, and delivering staff training and reflective practice. Courtney is trained in several risk and protective assessment tools including the HCR-20v3, SVR-20, and SAPROF, in addition to completing and interpreting cognitive assessments using the WAIS-IV. Courtney is also trained in the SCID-5, PCL-R, and has completed training in the ICD-11 for personality disorder assessments.
Previously, Courtney has worked in a low secure rehabilitation hospital for males with complex mental health difficulties. She has facilitated both individual and group therapy, including LMV-E, CBT based intervention, and substance misuse intervention under supervision. Courtney has experience working with individuals who present with a range of needs and difficulties including aggression, harmful sexual behaviour, complex mental health difficulties, and learning disabilities. She is also an honorary research assistant at Ashworth Research Centre.
